We offer confidential STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) testing to anyone age 14 and older at no cost if criteria is met. Our Public Health Nurse is the ONLY one who handles these tests so that the client may be assured that it is kept private.

Criteria for Testing

Certain criteria needs to be met for the testing. Sexually active individuals between the ages of 14-25 need to meet no further requirements. Individuals ages 26 or older have to either be symptomatic, have a sex partner risk (new partner in the past 3 months or more than 1 partner in the past 3 months), have had sex with someone that is positive, or as a re-screen for anyone that has tested positive in the last 3-12 months.

What is tested?

We do a urine screening to test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The test is then mailed in to the state lab. If the individual tests positive then they have to come back to the clinic to be treated or see their doctor for treatment.

How are STDs spread?

STDs are spread by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with an infected partner. A pregnant woman can also pass the STD to her baby during childbirth.

How can you reduce your risk?

The only way to fully avoid STDs is to not have vaginal, anal, or oral sex. If you are sexually active you can lower your risk by being in long-term, mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has tested negative and by using latex condoms the right way every time you have sex.
