The primary function of the Fayette County Health Department's Environmental Health division is to prevent disease.  Each county health department has an Environmental Health Office.

The Fayette County Health Department Environmental Health Division conducts routine inspections of public facilities such as restaurants, grocery stores, schools, tanning facilities, etc.  The Fayette County Environmental Health Division will also respond to complaints made by private citizens regarding unsanitary conditions within the county that do not meet current code standards.

Other services available include: sampling of private drinking water at risk for contamination, investigation of food-borne illnesses, also inspection of on-site sewage disposal systems, and private water supplies.

 

 

FOOD PROTECTION PROGRAM OF FAYETTE COUNTY

 

PRIVATE WATER PROGRAM OF FAYETTE COUNTY

    • Conducts private well water sampling and evaluation 

    • Provides consultation for new well construction and old well renovation 

    • Counsels owners in disinfection of contaminated wells 

    • Issues permits for construction of new drinking water wells 

    • Inspects construction of all new water wells 

    • Inspects the sealing of abandoned wells

    • Monitors non-community water supplies for regular sampling and construction standards

    • Semi-private water supplies inspected and sampled on request of the owner or occupant

    • Steps for disinfecting contaminated water for immediate use.

PRIVATE SEWAGE PROGRAM OF FAYETTE COUNTY

    • Approves plan applications for new or renovated septic systems

    • Inspects all new sewage system installation and any complaints of failing septic systems

    • Provides consultation and education materials for construction and maintenance of sewage systems

    • Inspects sewage pumper trucks annually

    • Subdivision plat review as required by state statute

 

TANNING FACILITY PROGRAM OF FAYETTE COUNTY

 

MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES OF FAYETTE COUNTY

    • Provides solid waste coordinator for the county

    • Home Loan Inspection - providing, for a fee, inspection of the private sewage disposal systems and well water prior to the sale of property
